Eijnar Lulo – Cooking up Success
Eijnar Lulo had graduated high school and was working at an ice cream shop. He was also making music beats and sounds for local artists. One day, after he had arrived home, his mother and stepfather had a very candid conversation with him about life and responsibilities. His stepfather, because of his own experience, was pushing the military onto Eijnar. Eijnar, being a creative spirit not sold on the career, had a conversation with his mom who reminded him of his passion: cooking. She and a family friend had heard of a program called Job Corps.
Eijnar did his own research and, while skeptical, decided he had nothing to lose. Eijnar remembers the song playing on the radio, an 80’s tune. He remembers that the pick-up spot was at a gas station. He was almost paralyzed from fear on the inside as he walked to the bus. As his mother waved goodbye, he slumped down on the seat so that she couldn’t see his tears. His journey at Miami Job Corps Center had begun, eventually propelling him to the Woodland Job Corps Center’s Advanced Culinary Arts program and a nail-biting interview experience with a Disney Culinary Program representative. Doing it scared allowed him to become one of prestigious candidates chosen to work at Disney World.
As he set off on his latest career journey, Eijnar offered these words of reflection:
“As my time with Job Corps comes to an end, l would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for the invaluable experiences and opportunities I have received during my journey.
The impact this program has had on my life is profound, and I am truly thankful for the support and encouragement I have received along the way. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Mr. [Claude] Johnson and Ms. [Jamilah] Rideout for welcoming me into the Advanced Training Program. Your belief in my potential has played a significant role in sharpening my skills and deepening my understanding of the culinary arts.
I am also grateful to Chef [Jaylen] David and Chef [Dylan] Mack at Woodland Job Corps for their exceptional guidance. The advanced techniques and knowledge they imparted have been instrumental in shaping my capabilities as a young chef. Their mentorship has taught me not only the technical aspects of cooking, but also the importance of professionalism and leadership in the kitchen.
My heartfelt thanks go to Ms. [Latasha] Kearise and Mr. [Shannon] Williams for their efforts in selecting me as a candidate for Disney through Woodland Job Corps. I am truly honored by this opportunity. To Adams and Associates, I commend you for being a beacon of hope for young individuals striving for excellence. Your support and commitment to our growth are deeply appreciated. I would also like to recognize the Oak Dorm Residential Advisors, Ms. [Rhonda] Jenkins and Mr. [Brian] Hicks. Your nurturing approach and unwavering guidance have been instrumental in fostering maturity and life skills among the students. The lessons in time management and self-discipline you provided will undoubtedly serve us well in the future.”
